Shower Filter and Eczema?

The skin of somebody with Eczema makes less liposome and some people do not have a type of protein that helps skin to keep moisturized. The result of this, is that the skin is not 'waterproof' anymore. Water can 'escape' the skin and it will become dry. And therefore itchy.
It also means that other materials can enter the skin, such as water and soap. Water and soap make the liposome disappear. The result is an even more drier skin.
Hot water has a stronger effect than cold water. Hot water makes the blood vessels open up to cool down. The effect will be that more water will disappear from the skin. The result, drier skin.
A dry skin increases itchiness.
We want to prevent the skin from becoming dry, because this itch is terrible. You know you better not scratch, but it is so difficult not to touch it. For kids this is even worse!
Some tips:
Take less and shorter showers.
Use less warm water.
Use almost no soap or shower gel.
A pH neutral soap will also irritate the skin.
Rather use an oil than a soap. Be careful if you use this in a bath, the bath could become slippery.
Dab the skin dry after washing it.
Use a fat creme to protect your skin
Now we learned that a skin with Eczema is less waterproof, it is important to question our shower water. Is our water that clean that we want it to enter our skin? From my own experience I can tell you "NO it is not". You can read more about my experience here.
Therefore I recommend to make a little investment and get a shower filter. It is very easy to attach it to your own shower head and the filter will last long.
I am talking about the Shower Filter from Benicci. It is said to have a superior 15-stage filter with alkaline ceramic balls, Vitamin C and coconut activated carbon level.
It has a lot of good reviews, a spare filter and looks nice, not very unimportant to me at least.
It was very easy to install. The filter needed to be drained/ filled with water first, before using it.
My intention is not to promote this filter in the first place. There are a lot of other good filters out there. I just hope that if you suffer from Eczema as well, you find this post useful, research a bit about the effect of water on Eczema and please try a shower filter and a tap drink water filter yourself.
