Since I was a baby I was covered with Eczema. My parents where almost hopeless, didn't know what to do with it.
The itchiness... the most terrible part. Your mind is telling you not to scratch, but your heart ohh you just cannot not do it. For a moment it feels good until you see your arm, leg, or whatever. Than you regret it, but you just had no choice.
When I became about 22 years old it was a lot better. Sometimes a spot here and there for a while. I was so happy about it. For a long while it was gone.
Got pregnant and it came a bit back, not much. After a while my skin was normal again.
A year ago, at the age of 32, my husband, my 2 kids and I moved to the US. Live the dream we always had to explore the United States of America. Just to experience what it is like living there, the nature, people, schools, just life.
Packed about everything we have and crossed that Atlantic ocean to live that dream. Before we went there I remember I was wondering if we could just drink tap water. Where we are from, The Netherlands, it's very clean and safe to drink. "No problem" I read a couple of times. Perfect, that's easy.
After about 2 months I discovered a little spot on my skin. Eczema. Hmm okay can happen, let's see how long it will be there. After a year it got worse. I discovered multiple spots. It was back. Something I really did not want ever again. But what causes it? Too much stress? No. Eating differently? No. Using body lotion or that kind of products? No.
I started searching for causes and of course, as I know there are a lot of causes. Than I read about the subject I was afraid of, tap water could be the cause!
There is a whole list of contaminants that could be in the tap water:
Lead, a heavy metal
Atrazine, a chemical
Pathogens, an organism
Chlorine, a chemical
Arsenic, a chemical
Nitrates, a chemical
Radioactive contaminants
Vinyl chloride, a chemical
Perchlorate, a chemical
Pharmaceuticals, shocking!
We started using a Water Filter for drink water. I saw a huge effect on my face. It looked so much better. The Eczema toned down a bit, but it wasn't gone. It started frustrating me, it simply needs to go. So I explored the internet again. I discovered that our skin also absorbs water through taking a shower. Never knew this!
The next day I searched for a good Shower Filter. Easy to assemble, good duration of the filter which has to be a coconut shell based filter. And to try it, not the most expensive one at first.
After a week, half the Eczema on my arm was gone. In only one week. I was shocked! And relieved at the same time.
We bought the Shower Filter from Benicci. It is said to have a superior 15-stage filter with alkaline ceramic balls, Vitamin C and coconut activated carbon level.
It has a lot of good reviews, a spare filter and looks nice, not very unimportant to us at least.
It was very easy to install. The filter needed to be drained/ filled with water first, before using it.
And there it was!
I am using this filter for a couple of weeks now. I will give an update about the progress of my Eczema, but so far I am so relieved that it helps. And this just by showering. Just ordinairy showering.
My intention is not to promote this filter in the first place. There are a lot of other good filters out there. I just hope that if you suffer from Eczema as well, you find this post useful, research a bit about the effect of water on Eczema and please try a shower filter and a tap drink water filter yourself.
It is not that expensive and to be honest, how much isn't worth to get rid of the itchiness, the redness, the... I can continue. Help yourself and try it. Explore this website for more information about Healthy Drink Water and I made some reviews about water filters if you are interested. For example this Water Pitcher.
I truly hope it would help you! Please let met know if it does!
